As day 4 of the "Woodstock of Food Waste" on Saturday, October 18, 2014, an amazing collection of food waste heroes and over 100 volunteers and thousands of attendees came together for Feeding the 5000 Oakland. After much success Europe, this was the first Feeding the 5000 in the United States and recovered an astounding 11,000 pounds of food thanks to Ron Clark of Better Harvests and a vast network of generous farmers in Northern California. In addition to thousands being fed on soup cooked at St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County and given away in World Centric donated compostables, 9,000 pounds of produce (in 1,500 reusable bags donated by the City of Oakland Recycles) and 2,000 bags of bread donated by YSOS were given away as well. The Beautiful Feeding the 5000 Oakland logos, shirts, & hats were donated by Oaklandish.
